Data Collection and Storage

What We Collect

ClipZen does not collect any personal data. The app operates entirely locally on your Mac and does not transmit any information to external servers.

Local Data Storage

ClipZen stores the following data locally on your Mac:

  • Clipboard history items (text, images, files)
  • Screenshots detected by the app
  • User preferences and settings
  • App configuration data

All data is stored in your user's Library folder and is never transmitted over the internet.

Permissions and Access

Required Permissions

ClipZen requires the following macOS permissions to function properly:

  • Accessibility: Required to monitor clipboard changes and provide clipboard history functionality
  • Screen Recording: Required to detect when screenshots are taken and organize them automatically

How We Use Permissions

These permissions are used solely for the app's core functionality:

  • Monitoring clipboard changes to maintain your clipboard history
  • Detecting screenshot creation to organize them automatically
  • Providing quick access to your clips and screenshots

We do not use these permissions to access any other data or perform any other monitoring.

Data Security and Privacy

Local-First Approach

ClipZen follows a strict local-first approach to data privacy:

  • All data processing happens locally on your Mac
  • No data is ever transmitted to external servers
  • No internet connection is required for core functionality
  • Your clipboard and screenshot data remains private to you

Data Encryption

Your data is protected by macOS's built-in security features:

  • Data is stored in your protected user directory
  • Files are encrypted using macOS FileVault (if enabled)
  • Access is restricted to the ClipZen app only
Third-Party Services

ClipZen does not use any third-party services for data collection, analytics, or cloud storage. The app operates independently without external dependencies.

We do not integrate with:

  • Analytics services
  • Crash reporting services
  • Cloud storage providers
  • Advertising networks
  • Social media platforms
User Rights and Control

Your Data, Your Control

Since all data is stored locally on your Mac, you have complete control:

  • You can delete any clipboard items or screenshots at any time
  • You can clear all app data through the app settings
  • You can uninstall the app to remove all associated data
  • You can revoke permissions at any time through System Preferences

Data Portability

Your data is stored in standard formats and locations, making it easy to:

  • Back up your clipboard history
  • Export your data if needed
  • Access your files directly through Finder

We may update this privacy policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or for legal reasons. When we do:

  • We will post the updated policy on our website
